The governments of Old Europa developed the Core Techs for one singular purpose: to engage with and destroy a potentially lethal or hostile artificial intelligence. It was a scenario no one ever wanted to see. The Core Techs, more than anyone, knew the consequences of what they were being trained for, and what would happen if they ever had to pull the trigger on the Lincoln Contingency.

After the dust settled, after the rumours and conspiracies had already run wild with accusations and claims, after the legacy of Old Europa was long thought forgotten, there still stood institutions that would not die, establishments that remained. The roots of the Family Gilchrist run deep and long.

They are the elite within the NEO-Budapest Triangle. Their history is rich with corruption and exploitation that reaches far back, long before the Black Lake Incident and deep into the roots of Old Europa itself. The leaders of the Core Techs know the Family were involved with the development of the AI before the incident, but have no way of knowing how far their influence ran, or if indeed, they are still pushing for the regeneration of that AI today.

SLAVE is one of the countless street kids from the darkest corners of NEO-Budapest, brought into the Family for nothing more than entertainment. She escaped, but not before acquiring a few implants and pieces of information from the Family for herself. Picked up in the Core Tech’s net, cast for the exact reason of finding information about the Family. They have harvested her memories, and are now rehabilitating her, so she might take revenge on those that turned her into what she is now.
